Neandertal launches two new fragrances: Is and Was. This duo is created from the same brief. The difference between the two is that one fragrance is crafted by master perfumers, the other generated by cutting-edge artificial intelligence. Yet which is made by whom? That, we are not told.
Was is the richer, deeper scent in the duo. It develops on the skin with complexity: it opens with warm, woody and spicy notes, then unfolds into an unexpected softness of iris. This intricacy is driven by a novel molecule, Diviniris, a new creation in perfumery that uniquely juxtaposes the familiar textures of iris and wood. The scent settles into a smooth blend of amber and clove, lifted by the bitter freshness of geranium and yerba mate.
Neandertal created this compelling and unique fragrance duo to complement their conceptual line: one that poses fundamental questions, with a particular focus on the future of our species and our evolving relationship with synthetic life.
As with all Neandertal creations, the bottle is crafted from handmade glass. The fragrance was composed either by artificial intelligence or by a team of perfumers including Isaac Sinclair, Fanny Grau, and Nicolaj Koralewicz.

Woody
Woody fragrances are full of character and indeed very woodsy. They can be warm, soothing and creamy, but also dry and spicy. Key ingredients are cedar wood, patchouli, sandalwood and/or vetiver. Oudh (agarwood), Palo Santo and guaiac wood have also joined the perfumer's palet, just like the fantastic synthetics such as Javanol or Iso-E-Super.
