The story behind BDK: from family tradition to a house of its own
BDK Parfums was founded in 2016 by David Benedek, with its doors just a stone's throw from the Palais Royal in the heart of Paris. Scent has been part of David's life since childhood: his grandparents opened their first perfumery back in 1959, and that love for the craft never really left him. After studying economics, he chose to follow his nose rather than a boardroom career, training in perfumery in Paris and completing an intensive programme at Cinquième Sens. There, he learned not just how to build compositions, but how to tell stories through scent.
You can sense that in every bottle. Each BDK fragrance isn't a random blend of notes, but a personal chapter: inspired by a memory, an emotion, a moment in Paris. Together they form what we like to call an olfactory library — each scent with its own character, yet all sharing that same thread of French refinement.
Craftsmanship you can feel, in the bottle and the scent
Pick up a BDK Parfums flacon and you'll feel straight away that there's more to it than the scent alone. The cap is inspired by the glass dome of the Grand Palais and handmade by a traditional Parisian goldsmith. The bottle itself is blown by a master glassblower in Normandy, using a special firing process that gives each piece a slightly different shimmer — no two bottles are ever quite the same. The label is applied by hand at a print house in Bordeaux, and the packaging, reminiscent of a beautifully bound book, comes from a family business near Le Mans, made with natural inks and recycled paper. And the scent itself? Composed in Grasse, the beating heart of French perfumery for centuries.
